Abstract: Organising technology development is a salient issue for the academic circle as well as practitioners, with increasing trends of technology development taking a collective and cooperative nature. Taking this as a backdrop, this article compared three ways of organising technology development: consortium, network and E-science, in both theoretical and empirical cases. While not the only method which will be prevalent in the future, this research notes that there has been a trend toward e-science in technology-related research. E-science, as a newly emerging idea of organising technology development, has critical issues to be resolved in order to be widely utilised.
Keywords: consortium; e-science; networks; technology development; technology management; knowledge-intensive industries.
