Abstract: This paper addresses the effect of internal business culture on the local applicability, in fact the success or failure, of various technology management strategies. As an extension of our benchmarking studies of high technology companies, we trace the evolution of the internal culture and ||personality|| of Hughes Aircraft Company, paying particular attention to those factors affecting the management of technology. This leads to a clear description of the distinctive characteristics of the company today, as a basis for understanding the viability of various technology management tools and strategies.
