Abstract: This study applies a data envelopment analysis (DEA) framework to assess Indian Premier League (IPL) player efficiency through a service-management perspective, positioning each athlete as a performance unit, whose on-field output can be objectively evaluated. Using publicly available data from 2023 season, this research conducts a performance evaluation on 20 batters and 20 bowlers, incorporating role-specific performance metrics such as balls faced, runs conceded, runs scored, and wickets taken. Basic DEA models were applied separately for batters and bowlers to ensure appropriate performance comparisons. Results showed notable efficiency variations, with a small group of players operating on the efficiency frontier as benchmarks. For demonstration, one batter and one bowler were selected as 'clients', illustrating the model's ability to identify undervalued high performers. Overall, the findings highlight DEA's strength in service management decision-making, supporting recruitment, retention, and role optimisation strategies.
