Abstract: This study proposes a method for diagnosing machining conditions by installing a small wireless vibration acceleration sensor with high-speed sampling (48 kHz) at the centre of the turret rotation of an NC lathe and simultaneously acquiring CNC servo information. To meet the need for chip separation, which is important in automation technology, this method was applied to monitor the machining conditions of external turning in intermittent cutting, which is considered a type of low-frequency vibration cutting. It was found that the combination of servo-driven feed motion and the frequency analysis of vibration acceleration is an effective method for diagnosing the chip generation state.
