Abstract: The judgement in the case of Molla Sali v. Greece delivered by the European Court of Human Rights on 19 December 2018 has given rise to different interpretations of the court's position on Sharia legal norms in the European legal framework. The article presents an interpretation based on a detailed analysis of the judgement and the court's case law on religious freedom. At the same time, the significance of the Molla Sali ruling for the concept of legal pluralism in Europe was evaluated. In the authors' view, it does not seem that the court's judgement has opened up any broader prospects for the concept of legal pluralism in Europe.
