Abstract: The rapid growth of peer-to-peer lending, a pivotal component of financial technology, calls for a comprehensive synthesis of the existing scholarly work. This study aims to systematically review and map the evolution of research on peer-to-peer lending. The dataset consists of 516 journal articles sourced from the Scopus database, covering the period from 1990 to 2023. Bibliometric analysis was performed using the Bibliometrix R package and VOSviewer software. The results, presented through tabular and network visualisations, reveal increasing research output, leading authors, influential publications, key institutions, and predominant research themes. Bibliographic coupling and content analysis further elucidate the intellectual structure and thematic developments in the field. The findings indicate significant research activity concentrated in developed economies, with potential for further exploration in emerging markets. This study offers valuable insights for researchers by highlighting seminal works, thematic clusters, and identifying critical gaps in the current literature.
Keywords: peer-to-peer lending; FinTech; gender; investors; borrowers; default risk.
