Title: Unravelling visual narratives: a comprehensive analysis of Lonely Planet's Philippines visual storytelling

Abstract: This research presents a comprehensive analysis of the visual narratives in the 14th edition of Lonely Planet Philippines, ' released on December 21, 2021. By employing a meticulous stratified random sampling method and rigorous analysis criteria, the study explores thematic, compositional, cultural, and geographical dimensions. Results indicate a diverse thematic representation, featuring natural landscapes (25%), urban settings (20%), cultural events (15%), historical sites (18%), and everyday life scenes (22%). Compositional elements such as vibrant colours (28%) and dynamic framing (24%) enhance visual appeal, while geographical distribution includes Luzon (30%), Visayas (25%), Mindanao (22%), and popular tourist destinations (23%). Cultural representation is balanced between traditional elements (35%) and modern aspects (28%), avoiding stereotypes. A comparative analysis with 'Lonely Planet India' highlights distinct narrative strategies, underscoring the guide's role in shaping perceptions and challenging stereotypes.
