Abstract: Frugal innovation, rooted in the principles of affordability, accessibility, and sustainability, has gained significant attention as a means to address the unique challenges faced by rural areas. This article explores the intersection of frugal innovation, sustainable development, and the role of multinational companies (MNCs) in driving positive change in rural communities through the frugal management canvas. Sustainable development lies at the heart of frugal innovation in rural contexts. Through alignment with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), MNCs can contribute to poverty eradication, improved healthcare, quality education, access to clean energy, and other critical development targets. Furthermore, by establishing local partnerships, empowering local entrepreneurs, and integrating the principles of frugal innovation into their business models, MNCs can effectively address the unique challenges faced by rural communities and foster long-term sustainable development. MNCs have the opportunity to create lasting social impact, economic growth, and environmental sustainability in rural communities.
