Abstract: As waste is isolated at the source, the success of Malaysia's waste management system largely depends on household participation. However, the level of awareness on appropriate waste disposal of eco-friendly practices is still very weak in Malaysian society. A modern and promising approach to address the above waste disposal behaviour is the use of persuasive technology (PT). However, one of the major limitations of PT is that they do not take into account how a person's culture and religious beliefs change their behaviour. Therefore, this study endeavoured to investigate the level of awareness on the importance of proper MSW disposal based on Maqasid al-Shari'ah (the objectives of Islamic law) in the urban community of Malaysia. This paper provides an overview of the awareness, benefits, and guidelines for Muslims to dispose of garbage morally in order to protect the environment and achieve prosperity in this world and the next.
