Abstract: Quality of a reconstructed secret is always the area of interest in visual cryptography. High-quality reconstruction fingerprints are the demand of applications for secure authentication using biometrics. During reconstruction, factors like accuracy of matching, greying effect, and size variance play an important role in measuring the quality. These factors are carefully examined for verifying the reconstructed secret with the original secret. Understanding that pixel intensity affects the quality of reconstructed secret, the proposed method puts forward quality improvement of reconstructed fingerprint using (2, 2) visual cryptography. It uses 2 × 2 matrix of reconstructed secret to measure the quality and (2, 2) visual cryptography for encrypting the secret. The resulting reconstructed image exhibits high quality in the interval of [0.8-0.9] as compared to various quality improvement techniques. The evaluation is done using the human visual system (HVS) and objective metrics. The experimental results achieved make the proposed method suitable for applications where the biometric authentication is crucial with high quality, expansionless size and higher standard deviation values.
