Title: Digital television broadcasting in India - an insight into TRAI new regulations

Abstract: TV viewing is revolutionised with new rules under Telecommunication Services Interconnection Regulations 2017 and Telecommunication Services Tariff Order 2017. These new sets of rules have enabled consumers to pay for only those channels which they actually watch. The present study focuses on the impact of digitalising the broadcasting in India. It analyses the cost and benefit to consumers and broadcasters under this new regime. This study also discusses the scenario of TV broadcasting around the world and competition faced by TV industry from new platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime. The study is a qualitative research using secondary data analysis. The cost benefit analysis to consumers under new regime is conducted using tool such as simulation, decision trees and scenario analysis.
