Abstract: Searching for excellence is an important direction in developing modern organisations that, more and more often, regard striving for excellence as a way of strengthening their competitive edge. The article discusses issues of project excellence and ways of achieving it. The deductive model developed assumes that the existing potential, consisting of the attitude of the management, competencies of the project leader, and efficiency of the project team, and appropriately reinforced through the effective management of project implementation processes, makes it possible to attain excellent project results. The deductive model is based on the assumptions of the project excellence baseline (PEB) model. The conducted studies indicate that the measurement and structural model show a very good match with empirical data and a high predictive capacity. It was found that the potential of excellence existing in an organisation determines the excellence of project results in a similar way as the reinforcement of the potential even though differences occur depending on the project category and the methodology used. It was also found that the project team, a key element of the potential of excellence, influences the manner of reinforcement by appropriately using the available and initiated project implementation processes and the related resources.
