Abstract: Our study presents a comprehensive review exploring the intricate relationship between genes and the environment and its influence on the quality and efficacy of authentic medicinal herbs. Employing an information-centric perspective, we investigate how the interaction between genes and the environment shapes various medicinal herb production and application aspects. Leveraging advanced technologies such as genomics and transcriptomics, we meticulously analyse environmental factors to uncover their impact on gene expression and medicinal compound synthesis. Our objectives include examining the regulation of growth cycles, synthesis pathways of medicinal ingredients, and the manifestation of medicinal effects in response to environmental cues. Through this exploration, we aim to provide insights crucial for optimising production processes, enhancing medicinal herb application, and elevating overall quality and efficacy. The methodology section of this paper outlines our systematic approach to literature review, including search criteria, selection process, and data synthesis methods. Our findings underscore the importance of adopting comprehensive information models to intelligently integrate diverse genotypes and environmental factors, fostering a nuanced understanding of this complex ecosystem. We highlight key recommendations for future research and practical applications in medicinal herb cultivation and utilisation.
