Abstract: Coolants are widely used because of their positive effects on workpiece finish and grinding wheel life. In order to reduce the severity of workplace environment, the reduction of coolant and the oil mist in grinding are important issues because most workers are directly exposed to them. Antimisting agents are especially effective at reducing small particles of oil that float in the air. According to the experimental results, adding polyisobutylene into the grinding oils as antimisting agents can reduce oil mist up to 65%.

Keywords: coolant reduction; grinding oils; oil mist reduction; antimisting; polyisobutylene.
