Abstract: Leadership is indeed one of the most important organisational concepts to lead humans in the organisation and gain organisational goals. Different researchers have investigated the dimensions of leadership in the organisation in the past. This paper is trying to find the connection between Hochschild's emotional work theory and Graen's leader-member exchange theory. Few researchers have been investigating the effect of emotional work on leadership job and its effect on the quality of exchange between leader and member in organisation. Therefore, presenting a model that consists of emotional exchanges between leader and member according to emotional work dimensions like surface and deep acting and emotional contagion can be a good departure point to investigate in this area. This paper is trying to synthesise the results of other researchers in the area of emotional work, emotional regulation, emotional contagion and leader-member exchange theory into a single comprehensive model.
Keywords: emotional work; leadership; leader-member exchange theory; emotional contagion; emotional regulation; leader-follower emotional exchange model.
