Title: Key elements to developing mobile applications for the higher educational environment

Abstract: Due to the global pandemic COVID-19, teaching institutes have relied on technological teaching methods to ensure education continues effectively. Thus, the use of mobile applications in higher education has drastically increased over the past few months. As a result, mobile applications were compelled to improve and adapt their services to facilitate for the rapid development of the higher educational field. This research gathered 234 students who previously used the application provided by the Islamic University of Madinah. Computer system usability questionnaire (CSUQ) and the comments of the participants were implemented to evaluate mobile applications. Furthermore, the students believed the application was lacking in implementation and design, thus the need for a complete redesign. Overall, the students negatively assessed the application. Therefore, this research proposes a guideline and framework to exemplify the key elements of a mobile application with the aim to create an efficient and effective mobile application for its users.
