Abstract: The machinability of Inconel 718 is assessed with and without magnetic annealed of the turning process under dry run. It was observed that as cutting speed increases, the shape of chips changes from continuous thick to small elemental chips, but as feed increases at constant cutting speed, thick chips are produced due to the large chip area available. Besides, the distance between two successive teeth and the valley of chips changes as the cutting condition changes, and the lowest distance between two teeth is observed at lower cutting speeds and feed rates. Besides, better surface roughness is observed at lower cutting speeds and lower feed rates due to lower tool wear. As the cutting speed and feed increase, the roughness of the workpiece gets reduced, and tool wear increases rapidly. The magnetic annealed condition, higher surface roughness, a lower tool wear rate, and an elemental chip shape were observed.
