Abstract: Repercussions such as flash floods, groundwater depletion, and the Urban Heat Island effect are in the wake of urbanisation. Possible solutions such as permeable and high albedo-coloured roads are discussed. Permeability refers to a material's ability to absorb fluids, while albedo defines its reflective capacity. The transition of the material of roads from asphalt to concrete is considered, due to concrete's superior attributes. With these adjustments in mind, key factors involving expense, efficiency, and resourcefulness, coincide. The preceding factors raise various implications. Although these implications are addressed alongside each proposed solution, sustainability remains the essential objective. Economic and environmental goals strive to be met while seeking the advancement of society.

Keywords: permeable; sustainable; high albedo; urbanisation.
