Abstract: Chemical modification of locally grown weed Parthenium hysterophorus (PH) has been carried out to increase the adsorption capacity, as well as the capacity to remove the soluble organic compounds and colour. Four different samples were prepared by treatment with two acids: a) H2SO4; b) HCl, and two bases; c) KOH; and d) NaOH. This nano-adsorbent was then characterised using FTIR, SEM, and XRD to identify the functional groups as well as surface morphology. The application of this nano-adsorbent has been explored for the removal of dye from textile industry wastewater. Batch Experiments with different samples have been performed to study the removal efficiency of synthesised nano-adsorbent. The effect of different variables like (nano-adsorbent dosage, dye concentration, pH of wastewater, and contact time was studied to optimise the parameters. The KOH-modified nano-adsorbent has shown the best removal efficiency at an optimum set of parameters.
