Abstract: With the proliferation of wireless devices for personal and business use, the amount of data floating through the air is ever increasing. This could be personal information or business information such as, trade secrets, confidential marketing materials, and a variety of other corporate intellectual property. Wired and wireless networks share some commonalities, but the differences are far greater than the similarities. There must be a way to secure wireless networks from intrusions, attacks, and unauthorised devices. By examining the technology and devices, the threats and the solutions to protect wireless networks can be displayed and modelled; thus, wireless data transfer for business can be done safely.

Keywords: encryption; internal network structure; security breaches; services; standards; wireless networks.
