Abstract: This research aims to generate recommendations on how art education institutions, particularly in the Department of Karawitan (traditional Javanese music at the Indonesia Institute of the Arts), respond to the latest developments in music technology. The importance stems from ongoing technological advancements in traditional music, particularly gamelan, leading to divergent opinions within academia. Using a phenomenological approach, the study delves into the conscious experiences of individuals and groups to uncover reasons for the intricate relationship between technology and gamelan music development. Through experimentation, the research explores enhancing gamelan instruments, like the kendang, using the multi-pad percussion - a device adopted by gamelan and campursari music groups. A critical perspective examines complexities arising from music-technology fusion. The output offers informed recommendations to preserve gamelan's heritage, guide institutions like the Department of Karawitan, and assist music scholars in effectively navigating gamelan technology.
