Abstract: The induction motor (IM) drive requires an effective and efficient control method that is profitable, simple, and easy to implement for electric vehicle/hybrid electric vehicle (EV/HEV) applications. In this paper, a study has been carried out on the dynamic response of quasi-ZSI fed IM control suitable for electric vehicle application. In this study, the FLC involvement along with speed regulation eliminates chattering of sliding mode controller (SMC). The proposed new hybrid control combines FLC and SMC together with IFOC theory. It is implemented on MATLAB/Simulink environment for IM drive. The performance has been noted under speed change and load variations. A comparative performance analysis has been observed for conventional IFOC, SMC and the proposed control method. The results reveal that the proposed method gives a fast dynamic response. Moreover, the proposed control gives smooth speed control with speed tracking, and ripple-free current as compared to other methods.
