Abstract: In this paper, we describe an instructional strategy for stimulating discussion in courses: online intercultural exchange of student-generated trigger visuals on issues in a field. We provide a rationale and describe examples of trigger visuals that have been used in classrooms to stimulate interaction among students. Two examples of telecollaborative classrooms illustrate how to integrate telecollaborative strategies into courses. Analytical techniques for learning systematically from others| trigger visuals are enumerated. We suggest that students discuss their perspectives regarding the meaning of trigger visuals online and grapple with ideas together for deep learning.
