Abstract: The internationalisation process of a company may influence its business model turning into a driver to business model innovation. Entry modes represent different internationalisation approaches that may impact the elements of a business model - content, structure and governance. This study investigates which innovations may occur in each BMI element as a consequence of the internationalisation process. Qualitative case-based research was developed. It was possible to identify that there is a relation between business model innovation and the internationalisation process, according to the adopted entry mode. While exports have a lower impact on the elements of business model, foreign direct investments lead to a higher demand for innovation at the elements of the company's business model. More innovation was required at content, comparing with structure and governance. Innovations in content include changes in the flow of communication and products, and in resources and capabilities.

Keywords: business model innovation; BMI; internationalisation; innovation.
