Abstract: Artificial intelligence (AI) is arguably the quintessential emerging technology of our times with ubiquitous usability. AI has been adopted by governments, companies and individuals for financial strategies, mass surveillance, etc. In the fields of justice, crime prevention, and security, there have been promising uses of AI. However, there is also a dark side to AI. In recent years, terrorists and criminals have increasingly adopted new techniques to threaten the safety, security, and prosperity of many states. The present paper seeks to investigate this nefarious aspect of AI. The researchers have investigated the issue using secondary sources to present a better understanding of the increased threat of terrorism with the use of AI. The paper asserts the need for better counter-terrorism mechanisms. It is submitted that there is an urgent need to focus on the use of AI to counter and combat terrorism. It also evaluates the development of AI in the Indian context and its use in counter terrorism.
