Abstract: Since deterministic and probabilistic safety assessment may only in part account for the lack of perfect knowledge, new concepts are needed. Whereas reliability theory only defines the likelihood of outcomes (does an event occur?), fuzzy logic is an excellent means to describe the extent or frequency to which an event occurs also in case of few samples. In this paper, a procedure enabling calculation of the failure probability of a structural system composed of serial-connected and parallel-connected systems elements will be outlined.

Keywords: concrete; damage; fuzzy logic; reliability.
