Abstract: This study aims to evaluate the characteristics of biochar obtained from the combination of a mixture of bamboo waste and cow dung in its potential as a solid fuel and soil amendment. The evaluations were based on proximate and ultimate analysis data and its calorific value. The results of this study indicated that the increasing proportion of bamboo, the increasing potential of biochar as a solid fuel. Otherwise, the increasing proportion of cow dung, the increasing potential of biochar as a soil amendment. This means, biochar obtained from bamboo waste has more potential as a fuel, whereas biochar produced from cow dung has more potential as a soil amendment. Therefore, the potential use of biochar is determined by the original feedstock.

Keywords: biochar; bamboo; cow dung; fuel; soil amendments.
