Abstract: In order to reduce the probability of traffic accidents and enhance the safety of vehicle traffic, a method for evaluating the effectiveness of traffic data collection based on vehicle network is proposed. A virtual coil is set on the driving lane to detect vehicles through three features of texture change, foreground area and pixel movement within the coil. A traffic detector is introduced to collect traffic data for a long time. Based on the cognitive assessment theory, a comprehensive assessment index system for the effectiveness of traffic data collection is constructed to complete the assessment. The experimental results show that the evaluation time of this method is less than 18 s, and the evaluation energy consumption is lower than other methods by more than 20 J, which proves that the evaluation time of this method is shorter, the error is smaller and the energy consumption is lower.
