Abstract: Climate change is a global concern. Contributions of the transportation sector in the emission of greenhouse gases are significant. This can be avoided to a large extent by the adoption of electric vehicles. Many barriers affect the adoption and manufacturing of electric vehicles. This study identifies these challenges from the systematic literature review. Demand-side challenges include high price, lack of charging infrastructure, range anxiety, consumer awareness, etc. Supply-side challenges include the high cost of components, technology development issues, massive capital investments, etc. Investment in charging infrastructure, research and development, consumer awareness, and government incentives are identified as mitigation strategies to overcome these challenges.

Keywords: electric vehicles; adoption barriers; supply chain barriers; mitigation strategies; manufacturing barriers; air pollution; charging infrastructure; range anxiety.
