Abstract: This study examines the biotech industry with a focus on the relationship between specific strategic alliances and new venture success. First, a research framework is conceptualised and nine hypotheses are proposed. Then, using sampling data gathered from 189 Taiwanese biotech firms through a benchmarking questionnaire, the nine hypotheses are tested employing a LISREL model analysis. The findings are generally consistent with the literature, with eight hypotheses supported. The major contribution of this research lies in its suggestions for improving new venture success for biotech firms by means of more effective strategic alliances.
Keywords: new ventures; biotechnology; strategic alliances; Taiwan; benchmarking.
