The adoption of Health Information Systems (HIS) is one way that has been used to achieve these goals. However, investments in HIS have brought increasing complexity to projects. Organisations have systematically adopted project management and maturity models to respond to these challenges. We propose and test a mediation model in which organisational maturity promotes the success of those HIS projects in the healthcare sector where project management practices are included in the process. The results confirm that higher levels of organisational maturity increase project management practices, which, in turn generates more successful HIS projects.
