Title: The role of skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development in improving economic independence among serving corp members in Ibadan North Local Government, Oyo State

Abstract: The broad objectives of the study are to: determine the extent to which NYSC Corp members enrol for skill acquisition training during their service year; know the extent to which NYSC Corp members utilise skills acquisition to enhance their economic independence and; ascertain the extent to which the skills acquired by NYSC Corps members enhance their economic independence. A descriptive cross-sectional survey research design was adopted. The population (1166) consist of batch A, B and C 2017-2018 serving National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) members in Ibadan North Local government area of Oyo State. The sample size is 300. Simple random sampling was also adopted as the sampling technique. It was revealed that the skills acquired through the NYSC SAED have enhanced their economic independence. The study recommended that the government should give support to serving corps members who have undergone the training program and willing to practice.
