Abstract: Among various options of controlling the CO2 emissions, one of the recent approaches known as solid to liquid concept is investigated in the current study. The proposed process presented to convert local low-grade coal into methanol via coal gasification process. The technical investigation of the integrated process is carried out by mass, energy and exergy balance, which provide a baseline for determining the weak spots in different sections of the model and to improve the performance. Finally, the feasibility of the process model is evaluated by its economic analysis. The results of gasification section depicted syngas production rate 0.5 kg/kg of coal input. The proposed integrated model has an overall energetic and exergetic efficiency of 63.14% and 57.98%, respectively. For a plant life of 25 years, the total capital cost and the annual production cost are 1038 M$ and 317 M$, respectively.
