Abstract: A new method that aims to judge if a metro station can be safely evacuated under fire conditions is proposed. Factors considered include heat, carbon monoxide, low oxygen and hydrogen cyanide. Usually, critical values will be selected for these factors to form judgment criteria. Instead of selecting critical values, the cumulative effects of heat, carbon monoxide, low oxygen and hydrogen cyanide over time are considered in the proposed method, which aims to get a more accurate judgment result. At last, a worked example is presented to show the application and calculation process of the proposed judgment method.

Keywords: fire safety; evacuation; judgment; combustion products; cumulative effects.
