Based on project experts' semi-structured interviews, several project management best practices have been identified and validated. First, the DEMATEL technique is used to analyse the impact relationships between these practices and to classify them into 'cause' and 'effect' factors. Then, data from 537 project managers, engineers and administrative workers have been collected, coded and analysed. All participants agreed on and confirmed the importance of the identified practices. But, the importance level of these practices is not the same. Specifically, there are significant statistical correlations between the cause and effect practices and success indicators; there are significance statistical differences on participants' perception towards best practices and success factors in terms of gender, age, educational level, specialisation, experience in current job and experience in general.
