Abstract: Renewable energy demand is increasing day by day due to clean and environment friendly source requirements. Partial shading on the solar photovoltaic is unavoidable effect and it affects the solar photovoltaic performance adversely. The photovoltaic cells of a module receive different level of irradiance under partial shading and reduce the power output. Therefore, different connections of these cells are explored to avoid the shading effect. This paper studies a 4 × 4 module with various interconnection such as series-parallel (SP), total cross tied (TCT), bridge-link (BL), honeycomb (HC) and triple tied (TT). Shading pattern on a 4 × 4 module is increased cell by cell in vertical direction, both from top to bottom and bottom to top. These shading patterns progress up to three columns out of four on a module. The characteristic curves, i.e., power against voltage and current against voltage are shown for the mentioned shading patterns and interconnections.
