Abstract: Deforestation and the change of use of forests to simple ecosystems and the development of agricultural fields is a global crisis, and this problem has increased in Russia during the 20th century. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of digitisation of agriculture and reduce the trend of land use change from forest to agriculture and release from agriculture on physical and chemical properties of soil in the forest ecosystem. The article presents the experience of the ecosystem production services evaluation of forest using aboveground plant species biomass, the plant functional traits, specific leaf area and community weighted average specific leaf area (CWM SLA). The major data process system that are necessary in monitoring the forest are proposed including tree cutting, fire, human interface, GIS location, soil and temperature sensing. The proposed IoT-based forest protection system works in two stages, first detect the situation and then send and process data of the affected area to data centre. It is concluded that the ecosystem production services of meadow communities can be successfully estimated using the calculation of the CWM SLA.
