Abstract: The convergence of an excavation, i.e., the reduction of its lateral dimensions, is the main reason for the loss of its functionality. This phenomenon occurs because of the movement of the roof, sidewall and floor rocks into an excavation. This convergence can be witnessed not only in all underground mines around the world but also in transport tunnels. The ability to maintain the necessary excavation dimensions is influenced by several geological, mining, and technical factors. In this paper, three factors were analysed: the presence of a fault in the length of the roadway, the presence of waterlogged rock, and the duration of excavation maintenance. For this purpose, rock mass movements were measured in three roadways in hard coal mines. The sites where the study was conducted were selected so the impact of the aforementioned factors would be unambiguous when considering the measurement results.
