Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to uncover the significance of strategic implementation of JIT practices towards manufacturing performance improvement. This study is an attempt to assess the performance of strategic implementation of JIT practices in manufacturing medium and large scale enterprises of Northern India. Questionnaire survey has been performed to ascertain the role of JIT issues towards manufacturing performance improvement by taking into account different practices of JIT. Hypotheses has been framed and tested using structural equation modelling and paired sample t test assuming equal variance. Findings suggested that the improvement in design aspects is the most important benefit achieved after successful implementation of JIT practices. Strategic implementation of JIT approach significantly improves the manufacturing performance through implementation of JIT practices. Both JIT issues and practices individually aimed at improving manufacturing performance through strategic implementation. JIT strategic implementation is gaining momentum with time in Indian context.
