Abstract: Grinding burn is a significant issue that causes damage to workpieces. Numerous methods have been proposed to monitor grinding burn, including the acoustic emission (AE) technique for its good sensitivity. However, it poses certain problems for its lack of stability and robustness. This paper describes a new method of monitoring grinding burn based on the frequency analysis of the high frequency domain that occurs when abrasive grains break the workpiece tribologically. Using this method, we studied the change of high frequency domain of AE signal spectrum and confirmed that it was effective to monitor the peak amplitudes near 550 kHz and 650 kHz to predict grinding burn.
