Abstract: Minutiae extraction-based fingerprint recognition is important for person authentication. However, missing and spurious minutiae were leads to inaccuracy. Herein an attempt has been made to overcome this challenge and achieve a higher degree of accuracy for minutiae extraction. In pre-processing the fingerprint image was subjected to fast Fourier transform (FFT). Further the filtered fingerprint ridge and its valley were subjected to binarization and thinning followed by Rutovitz crossing number (CN) method. In post-processing, Graham's scan algorithm-based convex hull filtering technique (CHFT) was used effectively to eliminate the bogus minutiae lying on the boundary of the fingerprint. It was observed that the CHFT can be easily superposed on fingerprint image and the precision of the filtered minutiae verified visually. After post-processing, experimental results clearly revealed that the accuracy rate and goodness index (GI) were better in ridges whereas the computational speed of post-processing was much faster in valley.
