Abstract: This paper presents a taxonomy of methods for online performance verification of three-axes Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs). The attention is focused on analytical redundancy methods, which are based on the use of mathematical models to describe physical relationships between measured quantities. A general framework for the application of the analytical redundancy methods is presented. A series of examples, together with an analysis of advantages and disadvantages of the applied methods, is described. In the end, one of these methods is experimentally tested and the obtained results are discussed.
Keywords: coordinate measuring machines; CMMs; performance verification; diagnostics; measurement reliability; model-based redundancy; quality control.
