Abstract: This paper presents a data hiding scheme based on difference expansion (DE), including an adaptive threshold for color images. This is seen that the different layers, Red, Green and Blue behaves differently. So, to get the best possible outcome in the contest of visual distortion and embedding capacity, an optimum data hiding model is proposed in this paper. The image parameters, namely, peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR), payload capacity, and structural similarity index measure (SSIM), are used to calculate the optimum threshold value to obtain an acceptable visual quality embedded image. Also, the genetic algorithm is used to get the optimum threshold value. Simulation verification using MATLAB R2018a of three color images demonstrated that the optimum threshold values are 13, 10 and 8 for Baboon, Lena and Rainbow images, respectively.
