Abstract: The study compares academic libraries and shopping malls with respect to pleasant experience achieved through infrastructure and technology. Phenomenology approach was used to capture user expectations on pleasant experience in an academic library which was then compared to consumer experience in shopping malls through published literature. The results showed that common experiences in malls and academic libraries include pleasure and satisfaction, recreational experience, experience of socialisation, experience of convenience and experience with technology. The study shows that academic libraries can adopt a shopping mall-centric approach to attract users and increase usage of library resources.
