Abstract: The technological and industrial development and the customers' aspiration to get products and services with high quality have led to an increase in the competition between industries and service organisations. The value of a product or a service can be improved through improving its function, quality and/or minimising its cost. Value engineering (VE) and cost of quality (COQ) are powerful techniques for quality management and for reducing the unnecessary costs. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to propose a framework that facilitates VE methodology application by using one of the COQ models to improve product quality and process capability. This integrated framework improves the value of products or services by raising the level of quality while maintaining or reducing the unnecessary costs. The paper investigates the importance of VE application, the factors influencing VE and the proposed integrated VE and COQ framework.
