Title: NDE for prognostic structural characterisation

Abstract: Probing material for damage can be achieved using in-situ and hybrid non-contact ultrasonic sensing including laser and air-coupled transduction. The technology is based on guided waves (Lamb waves or Rayleigh waves) for direct material interrogation including geometrically complex components. Signal processing such as Wavelet analysis enables assessments of the material condition. Experimental results demonstrate that such techniques can perform the inspection from only one side of the structure and have potential to estimate elastic modulai of the material. Such ultrasonic configurations enable non-destructive assessment of material integrity and life service inspections of metal, bonded or composite based structures.
