Abstract: Numerical analysis of laminar forced convective heat transfer of Al2O3-H2O nanofluids around a square bluff body is presented. An Eulerian-Eulerian approach-based mixture model, considering the slip velocity has been employed. Governing equations of flow and heat transfer are solved using a finite volume method (FVM) based on the SIMPLE algorithm. Nanoparticle volume fraction (φ) is varied in the range of 0-5% and the Reynolds number (Re) is varied from 10 to 40. It is observed that the heat transfer is directly proportional to the Reynolds number. At any given Reynolds number, the addition of nanoparticles resulted in enhanced heat transfer rates. The thermal field around the square cylinder is visualised using isotherms. Special attention has been given to showcase the influence of slip velocity on the heat transfer performance of nanofluids. Furthermore, it is observed that the particle diameter inversely affects the heat transfer rates irrespective of (φ) and Re. It is notable that the heat transfer characteristics are strongly influenced by the choice of the modelling approach.
