Abstract: Substance field analysis is one important tool of TRIZ (acronym of a Russian term: Theory of Inventive Problem Solving) in analysing and improving the technical system extracted from various kinds of practical problems. It utilises the 76 Standard Solutions and forms part of TRIZ (acronym of a Russian term: Algorithm for Inventive Problem Solving). However, the analysis is not for multicriteria decision making. This paper proposes how substance field analysis can be enriched with weighted average to compromise with more than one criterion. A case study is used to illustrate the method.
Keywords: TRIZ; alternative selection; substance field analysis; weighted average score; product development; inventive problem solving.
