Abstract: The aim of this study was to examine the impact of each dimension of emotional intelligence on job performance. There is a dearth of studies that have examined the association between the sub-dimensions of emotional intelligence and job performance in a developing country. This study will address this gap in conceptual research. This was a quantitative study that adopted a positivist philosophy. The participants were employees in the banking sector in Djibouti. Data was collected from 121 respondents. Multiple regression analysis was done to test the hypothesis. This study revealed that the self-awareness and self-management dimensions of emotional intelligence had a positive and significant relationship with performance. However, social awareness and relationship management had an insignificant relationship with job performance. The results of this study provided insights to policymakers for effective job performance. This paper provides an understanding on the sub-dimensions of emotional intelligence and their influence on employee performance.

Keywords: employee's performance; self-awareness; self-management; social awareness; relationship management; Djibouti.
