Abstract: The requirements of the software market make the organisations need mature processes capable of achieving quality and productivity demands, especially in organisations that deal with maintenance and evolution software. Several models and norms have emerged, which grouped recommendations for software process improvement, however, despite the effort of the technical-scientific community, there are still gaps. One of them is establishing guidelines for the measurement process in software maintenance companies. Based on a systematic review of the literature, this paper aims at identifying indicators, benefits and difficulties from the primary studies in the period of 2007-2017. 30 relevant articles were selected that addressed process improvement by focusing on measurement in maintenance organisations. As a result, a high measurement potential was seen to contribute to a better understanding of software maintenance, which may motivate necessary changes in processes and methods in order to assist and stimulate increasingly robust processes.
